Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5: New Features
Samsung took the leap of faith in innovation regarding foldable smartphones. And over the years, the brand has ensured to level down all the cons and make it more practical for real-world usage. While you might not see much of an upgrade on the Fold 5 or the Flip 5, the company ensures to include some interesting features.
1. Change in Appearance
While the past generations of Folds and Flips came with a clamshell design, resulting in a noticeable gap between its display halves which led to the accumulation of dust and damaging the screen. Samsung solved that with the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5.
Samsung has addressed the problem with the foldable design by making it gapless when closed completely. Thus, ensuring better protection from dust and debris, and providing users with a more secure and reliable device.
2. Upgraded Display
Although the Galaxy Z Fold 5 retains a similar appearance to its predecessor, with the same 7.6-inch main screen, and a 6.2-inch cover screen on the exterior, the displays are now brighter with 1,750 nits compared to last year’s 1,200 nits.
The Z Flip 5 now comes with an expanded 3.4-inch cover screen called the Flex Window, compared to its predecessor’s 1.9-inch screen. Samsung has also added options to view information and games to utilize the new Flex Window.
3. New Processor With Increased Base Storage
The Galaxy Flip 5 and Fold 5 are powered by the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip in the Galaxy S23 series. With this, you can see improved performance, camera output, and battery life. Apart from that, the base storage is now 256GB compared to the 128GB of its predecessors.
4. Price and Color options
In the US market, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts from $1,799, while the Galaxy Z Flip 5 starts from $999.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes in various colors, including Icy Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, and exclusive colors. There’s also the Gray and Blue, available only on Samsung’s official website. As for the Z Flip 5, it’s available in Graphite, Lavender, Cream, and Mint. The color options Gray, Blue, Green, and Yellow are exclusive to the official Samsung website.
