Integrate TV Shows, Sports, Media Events In Calendar

We’ve got a lot going on in our lives other than what our calendar tells us. There’s that Game Of Thrones season finale you want to get home for, the earnings call of the company you’re heavily invested in and of course you need to hit the pub to see Manchester United lose, again.

You plan the lunches with clients, the weekly meetings with your boss, and project submissions in your faithful calendar app. So then why do you leave the things listed above to other specific apps or worse, your memory? Why can’t you just have one calendar app for everything that’s going on in your life? And of course, you’ll want it to be smart and automated. You don’t want to manually input the dates of Man Utd disasters, do you?

No, you don’t. That’s why, on your iPhone or Android, download one of these two apps. They are great in their own right but what makes them spectacular are the plugins and the special calendars.

Sunrise

Sunrise is available on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac and it’s pretty much the best calendar app you can buy for free.

But the app has two particularly interesting things. After your account is created and linked with your Google Calendar, you can then integrate it with other services or add what the app calls “Interesting Calendars”.

The services you can integrate include Facebook for events and birthdays, Asana and Producteev for task management deadlines, and Foursquare and Twitter for Foursquare and Twitter stuff. If you use Songkick to track the concerts you plan on going to, Sunrise will import these details directly.

The Interesting Calendars have sports match timings integrated (even for India’s favorite sport cricket which usually gets ignored in such apps), religious calendars, stock market updates for specific companies, and that’s about it. Sunrise is also prompt with their calendars. For example, they had a World Cup 2014 calendar ready to go for the FIFA event.

UpTo

Okay, so religious and sports calendars are surely useful but what if you want more? Something specific and niche? Well, chances are you’ll find it in UpTo calendar app for iPhone and Android.

UpTo’s UI has layers you can peel by using the two finger pinch gesture to reveal more details about the day’s agenda. The app has a library of more than 25,000 individual calendars sorted in generic categories that are searchable in seconds.

If you’re thinking 25,000 is just a number, think again. The amount of amazing specific calendars in this app is mind-boggling. I’ve been playing with this app for a while now and I’m already subscribed to nearly a dozen of them.

Favorite TV shows like Last Week Tonight, Game of Thrones, etc? Check. Calendars for not only prime time sports but also localized/national events like college football or Indian Premier league? Sure. On top of that, add new releases for movies, books, and all sorts of media.

If you download this app, go mental with the search because that’s the only way to find what you’re looking for. With such a wide scope, categories aren’t going to be very helpful.
